A Storm in Paradise

Four months after Hurricane Maria, Vieques, Puerto Rico remains in a devastated state. The hurricane destroyed roads, damaged the electrical grid and ferry systems- isolating the islanders and leaving them to pick up the pieces. The short documentary looks at the experiences of Stephanie Neco Morales, and her mother, Glorimar Morales, four months after Hurricane Maria destroyed their lives and island.

Videography, photography, drone and editing for A Storm in Paradise by Merika Andrade. Additional video, drone, and photography was provided by Universidad del Sagrado Corazón student, Amaris Reyes- with technological and logistical assistance from technology specialist Ben Kreimer.

Still Here: The forgotten Pygmies of Uganda

For centuries, the indigenous Batwa people lived in harmony with nature and gorillas in Uganda’s Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. But in 1991, the government turned their home into a national park and tourist attraction.

The Batwa have received very little money from the tourism that has exploited their community for many years, and most Batwa people earn less than $2 a day.

This story by Merika Andrade and James Wooldridge looks at the experiences of two Batwa parents, and how the different lives they lead will determine the fate of their family.

An Immersive Look at the Ponca Harvest

A 360 immersive documentary about the annual Ponca Harvest, an event that brings together Keystone pipeline fighters and members of Bold Alliance in Neligh, Nebraska.

The harvesting takes place on Art and Helen Tanderup’s farm in retaliation of the Keystone Pipeline. The “Seeds of Resistance” is sacred to the Ponca tribe and is planted on land both in the path of the proposed Keystone XL pipeline and on the historic Ponca Trail of Tears.

Videography, and editing by Merika Andrade.
